Exhibition:New Circulation

November 29 (Fri) ,2024ー January 26(Sun) ,2025
Venue |ATELIER MUJI GINZA

Ryohin Keikaku aims to create a more pleasant way of living and a better society by reexamining the resources used in products and stores from new perspectives, while advancing initiatives in collaboration with local communities. More than 40 years have passed since MUJI’s founding, and there is a constant sense of the need to reflect on and reassess past product development and activities to envision the future with a broader perspective. Looking ahead 10, 50, or even 100 years, “circulation” is seen as an essential concept for the sustainable future of humanity on a global scale.

In this exhibition, the focus is not only on material “circulation” but also on the circulation of culture, traditions, and knowledge—elements that have been cultivated by humanity over time. Highlights are placed on the wide-ranging work of urban researchers Rashid bin Shabib and Ahmed bin Shabib from Dubai, UAE, whose activities include publishing, exhibitions, and research projects. Their work explores sustainability through the context of historical and contemporary architectural environments, emphasizing the cultural, traditional, and intellectual influences that contribute to sustainable living.

Their activities demonstrate a deep sense of pride in their cultural heritage, even as globalization continues to expand. They maintain an open and balanced approach to communication, discovering new cultures while finding meaningful connections with their own from a sustainable perspective. This approach is both stimulating and rooted in a process of embracing, digesting, and interpreting different cultures.

The aim of this exhibition is to update the concept of circulation from the perspective of ‘New Circulation’ and to invite visitors to explore together new forms of sustainability rooted in the wisdom of each region, which are essential for our shared future.
