At ATELIER MUJI GINZA, as part of the main content of TOKYO ARTSCAPES 2024, we are pleased to present “MOTHER – The Realm Between Imagination and Reality,” an exhibition by krank, a group known for crafting creations that bring artistic beauty to functional design.

Reality and illusion, visibility and invisibility.
In this mysterious world woven by tiny creatures, a sense of nostalgia lingers in the scenes. The works combine antique furniture and objects sourced from Europe—pieces whose timeless charm remains intact.Through various expressions of light and shadow, the creations are reborn, inspiring the imagination of new values through their unique artistry.

Kenichiro Fujii, founder of krank, shares his thoughts:
‘When choosing items, I imagine my favorite fictional town, and the imaginary house I would live in there. I approach my work with the mindset that we must not mistreat or let go of these old things that have survived this long. Antiques are the ultimate form of eco-consciousness. In fact, collecting antiques can also be seen as a form of eco-friendly activity.

Translation of an excerpt from IDÉE LIFECYCLING, September 2, 2015.”

The project extends beyond the gallery space on the 6th floor, expanding across the 2nd to 5th floors of MUJI Ginza. The whimsical, fairytale-like world unfolds throughout the exhibition, offering opportunities to discover new perspectives on appreciating and cherishing objects while gaining insights into the value of things through this immersive experience.

Life in Art

Life in Art is a project launched by interior brand IDÉE in 2011 to expand art (=culture) based on the theme of everyday art.
The project has introduced a wide variety of art, including the works of artists who share a common interest in creation, regardless of fame, timelessness, or nationality, as well as exhibitions and collaborative works at IDÉE SHOP and MUJI stores, and auctions to connect art to the next generation.
